Hello and Welcome to Mom Can Save! Thank you for taking valuable time out of your day to stop by my personal finance and family lifestyle blog!
My name is Siobhan and not only am I the creator of this blog, but I am also a mom to two wonderful kids and wife to an amazing husband. My day job is teaching, but I am taking a break from that world for a bit to spend some time with our baby girl.
I created this blog to help others learn how to save and make a little extra money, to help new parents and families with some things I learned along the way, and to help me and my family improve our finances. I hope that you are able to take away something that can help improve your life!
Throughout my younger years, I definitely was not saver – I was one of those people who has to spend the money as soon as I made it. After racking up quite a bit of debt through my student loans, I realized that I needed to change my spending habits and attitude towards money. With the addition of our second child, it became even more imparative to find ways to stretch our hard earned dollars.
I started to find great joy in finding a good deal and saving money. I often embarrass my husband in the stores as my voice increases about 10 decibels when I find a great deal!
While on maternity leave this year, I discovered the wonderful world of blogging and side hustles (yes, I know I am a little late to the party) and tried to find and think up more ways I could stretch our budget and earn extra money while staying home with our daughter.
My inspirations through this journey to begin my own blog have been my supportive husband, the desire to stay home with my kids, and the lovely ladies in my New Mom’s group. Meeting other new moms made me realize that there are other people out there that want to know about great deals and how to save money. These three factors really motivated me to put these ideas that I had into action!
My other inspiration has been reading other bloggers income reports – it prompted me to do more research and persevere to make my blog a reality.
A few other things about me…
I LOVE a good deal and hate paying full price if I don’t have to! I have accumulated a pretty decent sized wardrobe over the years thanks to a good eye for sales (one of my best deal brags is a brand new wool winter coat that I paid $0.99 for).
Our cat, Inky, is my third child and I love her to pieces!
I love food and eating! I was diagnosed with Celiac disease two years ago which was really sad for me, but I am learning to cope with a gluten-free lifestyle. Eating gluten-free has made our food budget a little trickier to stick to so I am always looking for ways to save on groceries. I enjoy trying out new gluten-free products or finding great tasting recipes that incorporate my special diet.
